About Bracket
Bracket is a small, independently run website that builds calculators for the money questions Australians actually search for — starting with two of the most common: "what will I take home from this salary" and "what will stamp duty cost me."
Why we built it
Most tax and stamp duty calculators online exist to capture a lead for a mortgage broker, a tax agent, or a comparison site — the numbers are almost an afterthought. We wanted the opposite: a calculator you can use without handing over an email address, that shows its working, and that says clearly which financial year and which government source the rates come from.
How the numbers are kept current
Australian tax brackets, the Medicare levy thresholds, HECS/HELP repayment rates, and NSW transfer duty thresholds are all reviewed and updated when they change — most of them move at the start of each financial year on 1 July, or when a state or federal budget legislates a change. Every calculator page states which financial year its rates apply to, and links through to the primary government source (the ATO or Revenue NSW) so you can check the current figure yourself.
What Bracket isn't
Bracket doesn't provide financial, tax, or legal advice, and nothing on this site should be treated as a substitute for a registered tax agent, a licensed financial adviser, or a conveyancer or solicitor who can look at your specific situation. See our full disclaimer for the detail.
What's next
We're building this list slowly and deliberately rather than launching dozens of thin calculators at once. If there's a calculator you'd like to see, get in touch.
