Why Bracket

Most calculators online are built to sell you a mortgage or a tax agent. Bracket isn't. It's a small set of tools built around one idea: show the actual formula, cite where the numbers come from, and get out of the way. Every calculator here states the financial year it's built for and links to the government source behind the rates, so you're never just trusting a black box.

We keep the set small on purpose. Rather than a hundred half-finished calculators, Bracket does a handful of things — an Australian pay calculator and a NSW stamp duty calculator, for now — and tries to do them properly, with the underlying rates kept current each financial year.

How the calculators work

Pay Calculator Australia applies the ATO's resident, foreign resident, and working holiday maker tax tables for the 2025–26 financial year, then layers on the Medicare levy (with the low-income phase-in) and, if you have a study loan, HECS/HELP compulsory repayments under the marginal system introduced from 1 July 2025.

Stamp Duty Calculator NSW applies Revenue NSW's standard transfer duty brackets, indexed from 1 July 2025, along with the First Home Buyers Assistance Scheme exemption and concession for buyers purchasing their first home.

Both calculators are estimates for planning purposes. They don't replace a payslip from your employer, a tax return prepared by a registered agent, or a duty assessment from your conveyancer — see our disclaimer for the detail.
